This page of the Elden Ring game guide contains tips on fighting the first tutorial boss in the game, the Soldier of Godrick. You will learn how to fight the boss and which attacks you need to watch out for.
The Soldier of Godrick is the first boss and is meant to test the skills you've acquired during the tutorial. To be fair, this boss isn't much different from regular opponents, except that it has a unique name and a long health bar.
The Soldier of Godrick has several attacks that are obviously telegraphed:
- Overhead sword attack - this attack is linear, so when the boss starts to raise his sword, all you need to do is dodge to the side.
- Charge and thrust - also a linear attack, the boss will run straight at you with his sword drawn, and when he is near you, he will make a thrust attack. Dodging to the side works here, as well. Don't dodge too early though, only do it when your opponent signals the thrust.
- Wide attack - this is one of the few attacks you need to be careful about, as dodging sideways won't help you much. It's best to dodge backwards or forwards, landing behind your opponent's back.
If you chose a starting class that has ranged or magic attacks, you can beat the boss before he even manages to reach you, as two or three magic attacks are usually enough to finish him off. Without ranged weapons or magic attacks, you can perform a charged attack to break your opponent's poise, then approach him and perform a critical attack.
