Long Gameplay Demonstration of Star Wars: Outlaws. That's How Life of a Smuggler Looks Like in Star Wars Universe
Star Wars: Outlaws is an open-world action adventure game set in the Star Wars universe. It was developed by Ubisoft Massive, being one of the first Star Wars games since 2013 not to be published by Electronic Arts.
Plot
Star Wars: Outlaws is set between the movies The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, the fifth and sixth episodes in the cinematic saga. This period was chosen specifically as it was when the criminal underworld truly flourished; the Rebels hadn't yet consolidated their position, while powerful criminal syndicates led by the Pyke and the Hutt perfectly exploited the Empire's systematic weaknesses.
The game's protagonist is Kay Vess, a smuggler developing from a young, inexperienced girl to a woman respected by the entire criminal underworld. Her skills make her one of the crime lords' greatest assets, forcing her to play multiple sides at once. During her adventures she's accompanied by several faithful friends - a furry creature Nix and a rebellious droid ND-5.
Mechanics
Star Wars: Outlaws is a third-person game (TPP). The game's set in a vast world filled with unique planets. These include stretching wastelands and densely populated cities full of shady canteens and money making opportunities. Planets can be traversed on foot or aboard a quick, agile pod racer.
We can also pilot the protagonist's spaceship - The Trailblazer. Sitting in its cockpit, we travel between planets and engage in breathtaking space battles; we'll also get to perform iconic hyperspace jumps, traveling extreme distances in a fraction of a second.
To progress through the game, the player must complete story quests, accompanied by numerous side missions and activities. During these quests sometimes we must make choices affecting the future of Kay and her allies. Our assignments include infiltrating secret areas and stealing valuable items to profitably sell on the black market.
On our quest we'll often encounter enemies and get into fast-paced battles, wielding a multi-mode blaster. Our enemies often outnumber us, oftentimes making stealth a better approach than direct combat. We're encouraged to do so through Nix, who can be used in many different ways, for example, to distract enemies.
Technical aspects
Star Wars: Outlaws boasts high-quality visuals. The locations are diverse and very detailed; so are the character models, especially the main protagonist, played by Humberly Gonzalez. The audio is also impressive, featuring an atmospheric soundtrack and sound effects iconic to Star Wars.
