The standard path from the Gravesite Plain to Scadu Altus in the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC takes the player through the Castle Ensis, which is packed with enemies. At the end of this location, you will have to fight a difficult enemy - the boss Rellana, Twin Moon Knight. However, if you want to get to Scadu Altus as quickly as possible, there is a secret alternative path. On this page of the guide, we will tell you how to take advantage of it.
How to reach a Spiritspring?
To reach Scadu Altus, we will use the Spiritspring located south-east of Castle Ensis (between Abyssal Woods and Scadu Altus).
A good starting point will be the military camp directly in front of the stairs leading to Castle Ensis. Activate the Site of Grace there, hop on the horse and then head southeast, following the path that leads slightly downwards. On horseback, you should be able to easily bypass the enemies patrolling the road.
Keep to the left side of the road because after a while you will come across a crossroad. Turn left onto the path leading down, under a tall stone arch.
After reaching the poisoned swamps (try to avoid contact with water), keep heading west so that the edge of the steep cliff is on your right. This way you will reach a narrow, stone ledge.
About halfway down the rock ledge, you will finally come across the place we are interested in - a current of the Spiritspring forming columns of air. Go ahead and jump into the rising column of wind. Remember to do it while on horseback.
The first current will take you to a small ledge where you will find another current. After using the second Spiritspring, your hero will finally land in Scadu Altus. However, to start exploring, you will first have to get out into the open.
How to get out of Fort of Reprimand?
After using the Spiritsprings, you will find yourself in a large castle called the Fort of Reprimand. Use the nearby Site of Grace to save your progress.
Start by exploring the area. On the stone balcony, just around the corner from the Site of Grace, an enemy will be waiting for you with their back turned. Take advantage of their position and stab them in the back. Then you can jump down into the gap between the floors.
Use the nearby stairs leading down, inside the fort. Deal with some soldiers along the way and make your way through the entire torture chamber. The stairs on the other side of the room will lead you to the fort's courtyard.
If you want to avoid a fight, sprint to the fort's exit and then head towards the narrow passage between the rocks on horseback.
The last obstacle between you and the open space of Scadu Altus will be a Dragon, prowling by the narrow path. However, you can escape from the boss by spurring your horse. This way, you will have bypassed the entire Castle Ensis section. You will now be in the open space of Scadu Altus, which now you'll be able to explore freely.
